OM is the sacred syllable of the HINDU philosophy. It is formed by AUM and, according to the sanscrit grammer rules, an A and an U together form an O. Therefore, AUM produces the sound OM.

Among yoga practises, its pronunciation is not very common in the West, whereas in India, OM is sacred and perhaps this is the reason why it is not given the importance it deserves in our Yoga practises in the West.
